Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill threw some shade at former 49ers wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, saying he wants to beat him in a race.
It looks like one member of the Kansas City Chiefs still wants to beat the San Francisco 49ers again after what happened in Super Bowl LIV.
Well, maybe not the Niners. But now the Philadelphia Eagles.
Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill is eager to prove to the rest of the NFL he’s the league’s fastest player, justifying his nickname, “Cheetah.”
For the record, Hill ran a 4.29 40-yard time back at his pro day in 2016.
“I already proved that I’m better than you at wide receiver. Now I’ve got to prove to you that I’m faster than you too?” – Tyreek Hill on racing Marquise Goodwin</p>

Now, Hill is calling out former Niners wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, whom San Francisco traded to the Eagles in the middle of the 2020 NFL Draft. Goodwin, a former Olympian, was also viewed as the 49ers’ top speed threat at the position between 2017 and 2019 and nearly hit 1,000 receiving yards his first year under head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Hill, wanting to prove he’s the league’s fastest, called Goodwin out on ESPN’s First Take:
"If these people really wanted to race me, they would personally message me on Twitter, on Instagram. They wouldn’t go on Twitter and then talk trash and don’t act. If you’re going to talk trash, at least at me."
When prompted for clarification on who “they” were, Hill responded:
"Marquise Goodwin, whoever. Whoever wants to race me, we can do whatever. I already proved that I’m better than you at wide receiver. Now I’ve got to prove to you that I’m faster than you too? That’s really going to hurt when I’m faster than you. And I move better than you? That’s really going to hurt."
After the episode went live on Twitter, Hill doubled down on his statements:
Marquise Goodwin was compared to Tyreek Hill back in 2018
It’s impossible to totally tell where Hill’s shade emanates from. But it’s possible it started back in 2018 when reporters asked Goodwin who he thought was faster, himself or the Chiefs’ speedy wideout.
“I don’t compare myself to anybody, but I mean…,” responded Goodwin before rolling up his sleeve to show off an Olympic rings tattoo on his arm.
Of note, Goodwin also won the 40 Yards of Gold competition a year ago, which was intended to determine the league’s fastest player in a flat-out race. Hill didn’t participate in that particular contest, though, so the actual winner here is far from determined.
Interestingly enough, former 49ers running back Matt Breida, not Hill, was actually clocked as the league’s fastest player.
The last two years in a row, too.
