49ers Free-Agent Target No. 2: EDGE Ezekiel Ansah

San Francisco’s defensive line is stacked, particularly with pass-rushers in Nick Bosa, Dee Ford and Arik Armstead.

But it’s never a bad idea to bring aboard another pass-rusher when you feel you have enough of them, especially for depth purposes and the ability to keep a solid rotation of rushers fresh throughout the regular season and into the playoffs.

Earlier in his career, EDGE Ezekiel Ansah was seen as one of the most prolific up-and-coming pass-rushers in the league. His Pro Bowl efforts in 2015 produced a whopping 14.5 sacks, and he followed that up with another impressive campaign in 2017 when he recorded 12. Yet the only problem, however, has been Ansah’s health. 2016 was a lost cause in which he recorded two sacks in 13 games, while 2018 was marked by just four sacks over seven games played.

That’s one of the reasons why Ansah wasn’t a huge early target when he hit free agency in 2019, eventually joining the Seattle Seahawks on a one-year deal.

Back in the free-agent pool, Ansah could benefit from a reunion with Kris Kocurek, who was the Detroit Lions defensive line coach when the now 31-year-old pass-rusher enjoyed his best years as a pro.

Granted, the Niners don’t need a prolific pass-rusher, just a situational one who still carries a bit of intimidation factor with his game. Considering how late it is in the offseason, Ansah would likely come cheap, too, banking on the opportunity to resurrect his faltering career.
