No. 4: 49ers Wide Receiver Trent Taylor

Heading into 2019 training camp, there were plenty of ideas slot receiver Trent Taylor could end up being the team’s leading pass catcher at his position.

But that was before Taylor suffered a Jones fracture in his foot, ultimately landing him on season-ending injured reserve and requiring a subsequent five surgeries to repair it. Tack on an injury-riddled 2018 campaign in which Taylor was dealing with a back injury, and it’s safe to say his pro career has been hindered by such setbacks greatly.

A video surfaced of Taylor executing tremendous footwork, which is great news considering the difficulty in recovery associated with these kinds of fractures.

But that’s not contact football. It doesn’t encompass the unnatural reaction of running into defensive backs trying to bump players off routes.

While there is only limited contact allowed in OTAs, those would have been exceptionally valuable for a player like Taylor trying to come back from a year-plus away from football.

It’s likely Taylor will be a bit slower to get his proverbial “football legs” back underneath him once training camp starts.
