49ers Trade Partner No. 1: New England Patriots

Well, wouldn’t this be something.

Like the Buccaneers, the Patriots shook up the offseason by landing former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton, who’ll be an upgrade over second-year pro Jarrett Stidham.

More from SF 49ers News

Newton remains a relative unknown, though, and arguably the best way to help either quarterback would be to establish a quality run game. Currently, New England boasts a trio of running backs Sony Michel, James White and Rex Burkhead. That group could be effective, but none are true home-run threats like Raheem Mostert. White is the most effective in the receiving game, while Michel was much more the runner.

No one within that group truly possesses the dual-threat capability of Raheem Mostert.

It’s likely Mostert would develop a quick rapport with Newton, who’d utilize him in short-area passing for likable results, while Mostert could take plenty of pressure off Newton by being more than effective in the ground game.
