Quite possibly, the 49ers’ most famous moment, which went on to be known as “The Catch,” in which wide receiver Dwight Clark caught a pass from 49ers legend Joe Montana in the back of the end zone in the 1982 NFC Championship game, sparked a new chapter in a longtime rivalry between the two teams that’s still present to this day and helped ease all those playoff losses to Dallas back in the 1970s.
Although the Cowboys currently hold the lead in this overall matchup with a record of 18-17-1, there have been quite a number of high-octane matchups, especially when both franchises were at the top of their game throughout the 1980s and 1990s, including three NFC Championship matchups in a row in 1993, 1994 and 1995. These star-studded matchups were the highlight of the season for NFL fans, as both teams were absolutely loaded with Pro Bowl talent on both sides of the ball.
These two teams combined for a total of eight Super Bowl championships in a 20-year span and were seen as the “it” teams across the league.
Also, who can forget the famous string of Terrell Owens touchdowns celebrations against the Cowboys, in which he brought the ball to the “Dallas Star” at center field twice in one game. This is probably one of Owens’ most iconic moments as a Niner, and of course, it happened against the Cowboys.
Nothing feels better than watching the 49ers crush the Cowboys, right?
