No. 10: Running Back Frank Gore Sets a 49ers Record in 2006

Kicking off this list is one of the franchise’s all-time favorites, Frank Gore, who solidified himself in the hearts of 49ers fans everywhere after securing the team’s all-time rushing record, besting legends Joe Perry and another player on this list.

Gore set that record and built upon it before leaving the Niners in 2015. But let’s go back early in his career to a time when San Francisco’s offense was downright atrocious, and Gore was essentially the only reliable weapon the team had on that side of the ball.

It would make sense for other teams to key in on him, right, given him being the lone threat.

Instead, Gore churned out a whopping 1,695 rush yards on 312 attempts, averaging 5.4 yards per carry en route to eight touchdowns. And to point out just how important Gore was to an otherwise lackluster offense, he averaged 105.9 yards per game on the ground for a 49ers squad that averaged 303.6 yards per contest.

But to make it better, Gore added another 485 receiving yards, too, making his yards from scrimmage a whopping 2,180.

That’s a franchise record, another accolade Gore holds for San Francisco. And him being able to do it when the team was awful only speaks more to his legacy.
