San Francisco 49ers: 5 UDFAs with best chance to make 53-man roster
By Peter Panacy
No. 3: 49ers Running Back JaMycal Hasty
Sticking with the running back theme here, Salvon Ahmed is also going to be challenged by one of the other tailback UDFAs selected by San Francisco following the NFL Draft, Baylor’s JaMycal Hasty.
Hasty, 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds, has the body type built to be a tough tackle. His shorter frame and low profile helped him be elusive at the collegiate level, where he saw time as a rotational back for the Bears offense. And while Hasty was never the kind of featured back Ahmed was a the college level, the splits between both rushing and pass catching speak to the kind of versatility the former could offer to Kyle Shanahan’s offense:

Hasty’s quick-cut abilities could make him a training camp favorite and someone primed to be one of those hidden-gem risers right away, particularly if he’s able to master the outside-zone blocking scheme and the ability to identify the holes before they open.
Like Ahmed, Hasty will have to outperform one or more of San Francisco’s veteran rushers on the roster.
If he does, though, it could be all but impossible for the Niners to keep him off the 53-man roster in 2020.
