No. 2: 49ers Running Backs

Projected 53-Man Roster Additions: Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon, Raheem Mostert, JaMycal Hasty

Few last year could have predicted running back Raheem Mostert would have risen to the level of stardom. In fact, it wasn’t hard to find roster projections leaving him off the 49ers’ 53-man roster entering 2019.

Now, Mostert looks to lead a crop of tailbacks, which include two other players capable of being starters: Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon.

Mostert needs little introduction or hype. But McKinnon, who missed the last two seasons in the wake of his 2018 ACL tear, could be the player to watch here. Especially if he’s fully healthy and capable of getting his proverbial “football legs” underneath him quickly. Kyle Shanahan made McKinnon one of his primary free-agent targets that year, and the dynamic McKinnon could potentially bring to San Francisco’s offense is more than intriguing.

Simply put, the run-first Niners, boast a deep crop of tailbacks who each offer up something different and unique.

As long as health isn’t a concern, this approach shouldn’t change at all in 2020. In fact, the 49ers ground game could be even more prolific than it was a year ago when the team finished as the league’s No. 2 rushing offense.
