No. 3: 49ers Linebackers

Projected 53-Man Roster Additions: Kwon Alexander, Dre Greenlaw, Fred Warner, Mark Nzeocha, Joe Walker

The Niners linebacking corps was expected to be good in 2019.

Turns out, it ended up being even better than expected, thanks largely to the quick ascent of then-rookie linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who did more than just fill in for an injured Kwon Alexander for the latter half of the regular season.

With Alexander fully healthy, Greenlaw emerged and third-year pro Fred Warner assuming his place as one of the best inside backers in the league, there’s no reason to assume San Francisco suffers any sort of drawback here. In fact, the only pressing question will be how to deploy this trio as much as possible, particularly in nickel situations where there are only two linebackers on the field at any given time.

That’s a good problem to have, though.

The 49ers depth behind this trio is weak enough to keep this position group out of the top two spots on the list.

But make no mistake, San Francisco boasts one of the best and deepest linebacking corps in the NFL entering 2020.
