The 49ers wide receivers of 2020 have an important role to play.

It is well known that the San Francisco 49ers wide receivers have a rich history.

Just go back and look at some of the big names. There are Hall of Famers Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens. John Taylor was arguably the best No. 2 wideout in franchise history, and fans need no introduction to the late great, Dwight Clark.

When we survey the 49ers wide receivers of 2020, they look to be a very talented group. A year ago, then-rookie wide receiver Deebo Samuel showed all the traits of being a potential breakout stud this upcoming season.

All that being said, there are still a lot of question marks for the team.

Depth behind Samuel is a question mark. Yes, the 49ers wide receivers can count on rookie first-round NFL Draft pick, Brandon Aiyuk. But he’s still a rookie. In addition, there are a couple of players coming back from injury and some players trying to regain their confidence after lackluster 2019 campaigns.

With any luck, the season should be a very compelling year for the 49ers wide receivers.

In this offseason breakdown of the position, Niner Noise evaluates what the depth chart could look like for San Francisco in 2020 and how each of the 49ers wide receivers play a specific role in the team’s overall chances this upcoming campaign.

Let’s start off with the clear-cut No. 1 option, Samuel.
