49ers Honorable Mentions

OT Mike McGlinchey

CB K’Waun Williams

LB Kwon Alexander

OG Laken Tomlinson

FS Jimmie Ward

All of the above players are vital members of the 49ers team from 2019 and should continue to be heading into the 2020 season. But for various reasons, they just missed the cut for the top 10.

For right tackle Mike McGlinchey, the issue is that he remains the second-best tackle on the roster, a distinction that still goes to the tackle holding down the left side, in this case, the newly acquired Trent Williams.

The former Notre Dame standout and first-round draft pick is an important player for the Niners, but not among their best.

The case could be made that slot cornerback K’Waun Williams is actually not only one of the top players on the 49ers, but among the best at his position in the NFL. But in Williams’ case, there is a player who has shown to have a bigger impact on the defense who makes the cut here.

Linebacker Kwon Alexander is clearly among the most vocal players on the defense, but he isn’t the best of the linebackers on the team, although his play and how he’ll factor into the team along with second-year linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

Right guard Laken Tomlinson has been one of the best players on the offensive line since coming over from the Detroit Lions in 2017 and has yet to miss a game since joining the 49ers. The consistency and availability get him noted here.

Finally, returning deep safety Jimmie Ward just missed the top 10 as well, as he’s coming off his best season as a pro and proved himself as a vital cog to San Francisco’s defense.
