San Francisco 49ers: Power ranking top 10 players entering 2020
49ers Offensive Tackle Trent Williams
To be clear, the inclusion of Trent Williams is based heavily on speculation and the assumption that he’ll immediately return to his top form in 2020 after sitting out last season.
If Williams’ workout videos are to be believed, the former Redskins tackle has been keeping himself in top shape. And even though he’s not exactly young anymore, Williams should be fresh and ready to return to his place near the top of the NFL’s elite tackles.
One of the key elements that should help Williams be successful immediately is his knowledge of Kyle Shanahan’s offense, having played under both Kyle and his father, Mike, during the Shanahans’ tenure in Washington.
This means there should be a very little learning curve for Williams, who will be entering his 10th season in the NFL, allowing him to fill the void created by the retirement of long-time Niners left tackle Joe Staley.
So in a similar way to Jimmy Garoppolo, placing Williams this high is almost like speaking the easy transition into being and trusting that Williams will be the player he has been throughout his career.
There’s little reason to believe he won’t, and the Niners are in big trouble if he doesn’t, and so he gets to be one of the 49ers’ top players heading into 2020 on the basis of what he’s been and the assumption that he’ll continue to be that.
