No. 4: A Darker Shade of Red for the 49ers (1998 – 2008)

After the 49ers enjoyed a throwback look in the middle of the 1990s (more on that later), the team ushered in a new look featuring a deeper crimson-like red on home jerseys and shadowing around the numbers.

San Francisco, which had worn white pants for a number of seasons before, donned gold pants with stripes once again.

While the Niners experienced some success early on during this uniform era, the jerseys of this particular time general mark a dark era in franchise history. During this period, the 49ers had just three winning seasons over the course of a 10-year time frame.

That’s reason enough to keep this jersey fairly low on the list.
