Defense:

Darrion Daniels, Defensive Tackle, Nebraska

Darrion Daniels stands out, as the 49ers chalked out $105,000 ($80,000 salary and $25,000 signing bonus) to sign him as an undrafted free agent.

So obviously, the 49ers see something decent in Daniels.

Daniels is a player with a relentless motor but never had the production at either Oklahoma State or Nebraska. But there’s still always a home for defensive linemen that can stuff the run effectively.

I don’t know if Daniels makes the roster given the deepness on the defensive line. But if the guaranteed money is any indication, he’s at least a prime candidate for the practice squad.

Jonas Griffith, Linebacker, Indiana State

The 49ers are pretty set at the starting positions for their linebackers, but the depth behind is admittedly a bit thin.

So with that in mind, Jonas Griffith has landed in a good spot in San Francisco.

Griffith was a pretty good defender for Indiana State, being a wrecking ball in the middle of the field for the Sycamores and displaying some pretty good athleticism for his 6-foot-4, 250-pound frame.

Azeez Al-Shaair made the team as an undrafted linebacker last year, and Jonas Griffith has a very good chance to replicate that feat if he can produce on special teams.

DeMarkus Acy, Cornerback, Missouri

The 49ers depth is pretty thin in the secondary and without any draft picks to help bolster it, DeMarkus Acy is certainly in a good position to make an impression and find himself on the roster.

At 6-1 and 195 pounds, Acy has a good size to fit the 49ers defensive scheme. He’s athletic enough for the pro level and would have a good teacher in veteran corner Richard Sherman.

Acy won’t be a potential starter in his rookie year, but he does have the potential to stick on the roster as a backup and hone his game.

Jared Mayden, Safety, Alabama

It was a bit surprising Jared Mayden didn’t get drafted after having a solid senior year with Alabama.

Mayden was a starting safety for the Crimson Tide and had 59 tackles and four interceptions. His versatility to play either safety position no doubt appealed to San Francisco.

Mayden will have a chance to compete as the fifth safety, should they choose to have one on the team with the increased 55-man weekly roster limit, or be a candidate for the practice squad.
