The San Francisco 49ers didn’t have a lot of holes to fill during the 2020 NFL Draft, yet many of the additions could ultimately endanger certain players’ jobs this upcoming season.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch added five rookies by way of the 2020 NFL Draft, going along with one key veteran addition, offensive tackle Trent Williams, who was acquired on day three via a trade with the Washington Redskins.

Williams will immediately fill the void left by recently retired left tackle Joe Staley, and some may argue the younger Williams, a seven-time Pro Bowler, is even an upgrade over the longtime Niners fan favorite.

Yet San Francisco’s other additions could shake up Lynch’s offseason depth chart, putting more pressure on the coaching staff to make some crucial decisions when forming the eventual 53-man regular-season roster to be revealed later this year.

The 49ers were able to add the following players via the draft:

  1. DT Javon Kinlaw, South Carolina
  2. WR Brandon Aiyuk, Arizona State
  3. OT Trent Williams, via trade with Washington
  4. OL Colton McKivitz, West Virginia
  5. TE Charlie Woerner, Georgia
  6. WR Jauan Jennings, Tennessee

In addition, the Niners brought aboard 10 undrafted free agents. While most will either round out the team’s offseason 90-man roster and, at best, make the 2020 practice squad, a handful could potentially crack the 53-man roster by Week 1 or at other points in the regular season.

With that, there are inevitably going to be players who lose jobs as a result.

This won’t necessarily mean those players will be cut, per se. But with teams like the 49ers always striving for upgrades, these three contributors could wind up seeing their jobs ended by the time the regular season rolls around.
