B+. . . . SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Team needs

The 49ers needed to upgrade at wide receiver desperately to remain a Super Bowl contender. The team could also build up depth at a lot of positions.

2020 NFL Draft class

  • No. 14: Javon Kinlaw, Defensive Tackle, South Carolina
  • No. 25: Brandon Aiyuk, Wide Receiver, Arizona State
  • No. 153: Colton McKivitz, Offensive Tackle, West Virginia
  • No. 190: Charlie Woerner, Tight End, South Carolina
  • No. 217: Jauan Jennings, Wide Reciever, Tennessee

Draft review

It was suspected the 49ers would trade down for more picks. They did… and then promptly traded up again.

Javon Kinlaw and Brandon Aiyuk are impact NFL Draft picks who’ll help the team attempt to stay on top of the NFC. Colton McKivitz and Charlie Woerner will be depth, while Jauan Jennings is an attempt at a home run in the last round.

Moving a 2020 fifth- and 2021 third-round pick for Pro Bowl tackle Trent Williams to replace Joe Staley was an absolute coup.

The team did well, but I think the team could have gone with a pick towards the secondary.
