Running Back

Halfback: Raheem Mostert

Fullback: Kyle Juszczyk

While not as blockbuster as the Trent Williams deal, the 49ers pulled off quite the move by trading away running back Matt Breida to the Miami Dolphins in the middle of the NFL Draft.

Like Dante Pettis, Breida appeared to fall out of Kyle Shanahan’s favor last year, although not exactly for the same reasons. And Breida’s role wasn’t helped by just how crowded San Francisco’s running back room was throughout the course of the season.

Breida’s roster spot will likely go to fellow running back Jerick McKinnon, who’ll look to make a return from a two-year ACL injury.

Exactly what McKinnon’s role will be, and how much the Niners use him, is anyone’s guess at this point.

That’ll leave Raheem Mostert and the veteran, Tevin Coleman, to assume the primary ball-carrying duties on the ground.
