Acy was solid in man coverage because he is able to use his length (6-foot-2) to overcome his lack of speed. His footwork is very clean, but his technique can be inconsistent. His overall size and skill set, however, are ideal for what the Niners seek in their corners, and it very well could provide him an opportunity with the defending NFC champs.
He had three interceptions and 10 pass breakups last season for the Tigers, so he definitely has a knack for making plays on the ball.
The biggest knock on Acy is his lack of makeup speed when a receiver gets a jump on him, but that could ultimately be mitigated with proper press technique.
After all, veteran corner Richard Sherman was never known for being a speed player, rather using strength and football IQ to lock down his receiver. Acy has a long way to go before earning that kind of pedigree, but the stock sample is there.
Although roster spots on this team may be few and far between, Acy may have a good chance to carve out a place in a secondary that could use an infusion of talent, especially with the looming free agents who may be hitting the open market after this season.
