Loser: Seattle Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams appeared to tread water in the NFL Draft, which is understandable to a point after trading away so many top-end picks in recent years.

But the Seattle Seahawks appeared to move in the wrong direction, capped off by some surprising picks in Rounds 1 through three:

  • Round 1 (27 Overall): LB Jordyn Brooks, Texas Tech
  • Round 2 (48 Overall): EDGE Darrell Taylor, Tennessee
  • Round 3 (69 Overall): IOL Damien Lewis, LSU

Seattle earned a C-minus grade from the folks over at Pro Football Focus, making this particular class the lowest out of the entire NFC West. Brooks, while talented, was a massive reach in Round 1 and probably could have been had via a trade down from the 48th overall pick in Round 2.

This would have saved the Seahawks from having to reach in a weak edge-rushing class for Taylor who, while decent, doesn’t exactly project to be anything close to a prolific pass-rusher.

Simply put, there were other players available who would have been better much-needed additions.

Lewis was the best pick by far.

Still, the Seahawks appear to have regressed, which isn’t what they’d want to do amid a division where both the 49ers and Arizona Cardinals improved.
