3 problems still facing 49ers after 2020 NFL Draft

No. 1: Few Long-Term Answers in 49ers Secondary
Along with wide receiver and (justifiably) the offensive line, San Francisco’s secondary was considered a major point of need heading into the NFL Draft.
And the Niners drafted precisely zero defensive backs.

Granted, the team made a few additions as undrafted free agents: Missouri’s DeMarkus Acy, Alabama’s Jared Mayden and Missouri’s Ronnell Perkins. But these three players figure to be no more than camp competition with the outside chance of making the regular-season 55-man roster as depth options.
The 49ers secondary could undergo some serious changes in 2021, particularly with defensive backs Richard Sherman, Jaquiski Tartt, K’Waun Williams and Ahkello Witherspoon all entering contract years this season.
True, there’s a chance the Niners work on bringing at least some of those players back. But with Sherman aging, and no real clear-cut options on the boundary to start two positions beyond this season, one has to wonder if San Francisco made a small mistake not going with a cornerback.
Especially with a player like Nebraska’s Lamar Jackson or Virginia’s Bryce Hall, who were both available late on day three.
San Francisco has a game plan here, of course. So hopefully this approach works. Yet it doesn’t change the fact the lack of secondary targets presents a notable question mark.
