No. 3: Seahawks Taking Jordyn Brooks

Like anything in the NFL Draft, this move could wind up being a great move by the 49ers’ NFC West division rivals, the Seattle Seahawks.

At No. 27 overall, the Seahawks had a chance to land one of the top edge rushers in a relatively limited class at the position, perhaps Penn State’s Yetur Gross-Matos or Iowa’s A.J. Epenesa who were both still available.

Instead, Seattle grabbed Texas Tech linebacker Jordyn Brooks who wasn’t exactly seen on a lot of Round 1 big boards.

That alone doesn’t necessarily matter, as the Seahawks ultimately got their guy. But what made Seattle choose Brooks over another top-look linebacker, such as LSU’s Patrick Queen who went a pick later to the Baltimore Ravens, is somewhat of a head scratcher.

Linebacker wasn’t too big a pressing need, either, and the Seahawks probably would have been better off getting some pass-rushing help first, or at least looking to bolster the secondary with some other players still on the board.

Such as Alabama safety Xavier McKinney, who somehow slipped out of Round 1.
