49ers out-of-the-box 7-round 2020 mock NFL Draft
By Timmy Gibson
Finally, the 49ers select the long-awaited wide receiver. Although many expect the 49ers to take a wide receiver in the first round, perhaps Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch decide they’re comfortable with the receivers they have, especially with Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor returning from injury.
That is the assumption we are working under in this out-of-the-box mock draft.
But, the 49ers had to grab a receiver eventually, and so they went with Omar Bayless of Arkansas State.
Bayless is coming off of an incredible senior season, one in which he led all of college football in yards per game with 127.2and finished second in total receiving yards with 1,653. Even in the Sun Belt, those are numbers that cannot be ignored.
Bayless was an elite deep threat in college, although scouts have doubts about his speed being able to transfer against NFL competition. Additionally, he showed an ability to make aggressive, physical catches with an exciting highlight reel full of one-handed catches that makes him look like a low-budget Odell Beckham Jr. Although once again, I must remind you that he played in the Sun Belt.
Still, Bayless’ college production cannot be ignored, and in this mock, the Niners decide to take a chance on him. He will come into camp having to prove that his skills will translate to the NFL if he wants to earn a roster spot, but if they do, the Niners may have managed to grab the wide receiver they are rumored to so deeply desire at a complete steal in the seventh round.
