After the success of Nick Bosa and Dee Ford last season, the Niners front office decides to grab another EDGE to strengthen the pass rush. So, they grab Trevis Gipson of the University of Tulsa, who fell to the sixth round in this mock.

While some would say the 49ers don’t need additional edge rushers, the 49ers know that a strong pass rush can make all the difference in the NFL, and so they don’t pass on the opportunity to grab an intriguing prospect in Gipson.

Gipson comes off a strong senior season at Tulsa, finishing with eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss. His coaches commend his work ethic, mentality and leadership. He displays a strong ability to get to the football, with five forced fumbles in 2018, and two in 2019. Although his technique needs a lot of development, Gipson plays aggressive and shows lots of raw, untapped potential.

Gipson is the most unpolished prospect the Niners have taken yet in this mock. But, most draft evaluators point to him as someone who under the right tutelage could develop into a strong rusher. The 49ers are the perfect team to provide that tutelage. At Tulsa, he developed over the years into a far better player than he was upon his arrival.

Surrounded by an elite group of edge rushers at the 49ers, he would have every opportunity to do the same.
