Defying all expectations, the Niners continue to wait on taking a wide receiver, instead grabbing a tight end to pair with superstar George Kittle in Devin Asiasi of UCLA.

Kyle Shanahan’s scheme requires lots of blocking from the team’s tight ends. Kittle excels at this, as well as at everything else. But with the Niners expected to sign Kittle to an expensive extension, the team looks to bring in another tight end to help Kittle carry the load.

Asiasi would be a great fit to complement Kittle. He is a strong athlete, whose technique is unrefined but it full of potential. That seems to be a theme in this mock draft. Asiasi is fairly inexperienced, he only started one season at UCLA after transferring from Michigan.

But in 2019, he put together a stellar season as one of a few bright spots on an abysmal UCLA team. As a Bruin, I got to see many of his games in person and saw his athleticism firsthand.

Additionally, he has a tough mentality, and solid blocking skills, which is a must for the 49ers at tight end. He has solid receiving skills as well, which will give the Niners another way to trick defenses.

With those skills, he will be a great compliment to Kittle and will be right there to step up if Kittle is ever injured. While he is no Kittle, Asiasi won’t need to be to find success and contribute to the 49ers, which is why they grab him here at No. 156.
