San Francisco 49ers: 7-round trade-heavy mock for 2020 NFL Draft
By Peter Panacy
Like cornerback, it wouldn’t be a shock to see the 49ers bring aboard multiple wide receivers in this year’s draft, particularly considering the depth in the class.
In Round 7, there aren’t going to be a lot of safe options. Instead, teams like the Niners are going to bank on high upsides, hoping whichever prospects selected in this round wind up providing some hidden-gem impact.
Washington State wide receiver Dezmon Patmon is the epitome of this kind of player.
Patmon, 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, is a huge target with a 40-yard time of just under 4.5 seconds. He’s not a fluid route runner, and he lacks some of the alpha-type traits coaches would want from a true go-to target.
Still, the raw skills are there.
A year after San Francisco selected former Baylor wideout Jalen Hurd, who has a similar stature to Patmon, this move might not make a lot of sense. But Hurd, whose 2019 back injury kept him on injured reserve all of last year, could end up being one of those injury busts before he even makes an impact on the field.
