There probably won’t be too many instances where the 49ers trade up in the NFL Draft this year, unless there’s a player John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan absolutely want.

And in this case, one of those perfect fits winds up slipping through Round 2 and into the early stages of Round 3.

Yet the Niners weren’t slated to pick early in the round, so the scenario here is trading away those two third-round selections, plus San Francisco’s sixth-round pick, to the Cincinnati Bengals in exchange for the No. 65 overall pick.

By going this route, the 49ers are able to solve their needs on defense right away without having to avoid their pressing wide receiver concerns in the wake of Emmanuel Sanders’ free-agent departure to the New Orleans Saints.

Sure, players like Jerry Jeudy command a ton of attention for San Francisco and rightfully so. But one could argue USC wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. is a seamless fit for Shanahan.

ESPN’s Matt Bowen certainly thinks so, as does Fourth and Nine’s Akash Anavarathan.

And to get Pittman at the start of Round 3 would be a gift, as the Niners would be landing a big-bodied, playmaking wideout who could eventually emerge as a No. 1 pass-catching target.
