No. 1: Wide Receiver

Just because the 49ers have other positions of need doesn’t mean they’ll completely steer clear of grabbing a wide receiver.

Losing veteran wideout Emmanuel Sanders in free agency to the New Orleans Saints hurts, especially because it leaves younger receivers Deebo Samuel and Kendrick Bourne to shoulder the rest of the load above a remaining crop of less-than-proven or reliable pass catchers at the position.

And while the 2020 draft class is awfully deep at wide receiver, there are three players who stand well above the rest of this impressive group.

One of those prospects widely mocked to San Francisco is Alabama’s Jerry Jeudy, who looks to have all the tools ideal for a true No. 1 wide receiver. If not Jeudy, Oklahoma’s CeeDee Lamb is an exceptional playmaker with extreme yards-after-the-catch ability.

There’s no questioning Alabama’s Henry Ruggs III’s speed, either. It’s elite.

The New York Jets and Las Vegas Raiders, both selecting immediately ahead of the Niners, could be looking at wide receivers, too. But even if two of the above three players are gone by the time No. 13 rolls around, the 49ers would still be happy with the remaining prospect.
