No. 7: Dave Parks

No. 1 Overall, 1964 NFL Draft

From more recent 49ers history back into the archives, the next player on our list is someone most Niners fans won’t recall.

But they should.

Wide receiver Dave Parks was the top pick of the 1964 NFL Draft. Interestingly enough, Parks was also selected by the San Diego Chargers in Round 4 of that year’s AFL Draft before the merger.

Good thing Parks chose San Francisco.

Parks only played with the Niners for four seasons. But three of those years were awfully memorable. His rookie season, Parks managed 703 receiving yards and eight touchdowns over 14 games, earning him a Pro Bowl nod.

In 1965, however, one could argue Parks was the league’s best offensive player, leading the league in receptions (80), receiving yards (1,344) and touchdowns (12) to land him yet another Pro Bowl selection, as well as a first-team All-Pro nod.

Parks landed himself another Pro Bowl selection in 1966 before having a drop-off year in San Francisco the following year, ultimately forcing a split before Parks joined the New Orleans Saints.
