Running Back

Fullback: Kyle Juszczyk

Halfback: Raheem Mostert

Unlike quarterback, there’s actually quite a bit of uncertainty surrounding the Niners’ pending actions at running back.

The veteran, Tevin Coleman, has zero in guaranteed money on his current contract this year, and it’s still possible he’s a cap casualty. But Kyle Shanahan seems to have an affinity for his former Atlanta Falcons standout, so there’s a good chance Coleman hangs around in the rotation, too.

Fellow runner Matt Breida, meanwhile, received a second-round restricted free-agent tender. And while it’s hard to see another team trying to pry Breida away in exchange for a second-round NFL Draft pick, it’s possible the 49ers explore trading the former undrafted free agent at some point this offseason.

Jerick McKinnon, who spent the last two seasons on injured reserve, reworked his contract this offseason and figures to be part of Shanahan’s rotation on a regular basis. Considering the recovery, though, it’s a bit risky to suggest McKinnon starts.

If anything, the only guarantee is last year’s late-season star, Raheem Mostert, winds up assuming the most prominent of roles on the ground in 2020.
