It’s highly, highly likely the 49ers will grab a wide receiver with one of their two first-round NFL Draft picks.

Yet there are far more questions at wide receiver for San Francisco than can be answered by a mere single selection. Outside of second-year pro Deebo Samuel and to a lesser extent, Kendrick Bourne, there are few proven options after the Niners ultimately allowed veteran pass catcher Emmanuel Sanders to depart in free agency. Third-year pro Dante Pettis is on the hot seat, while fellow wide receivers Jalen Hurd and Trent Taylor spent all of 2019 on injured reserve.
Considering the depth of the 2020 NFL Draft class at the position, it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see Kyle Shanahan want at least two wideouts selected, the first going in Round 1 and another at some point on day three.
Some size would be beneficial, and Mississippi State’s Stephen Guidry checks off that box at 6-foot-3 and 201 pounds.
Guidry’s collegiate numbers aren’t eye-popping, but that’s the likely result in the later rounds anyway. What matters is his above-average speed, good separation skills and nearly 33-inch arms, which help him attack those 50-50 balls when he’s not totally able to get open.
For a Round 5 target, Guidry might serve as an excellent complementary weapon to San Francisco’s hopeful wide receiver starters in 2020 and beyond.
