No. 5: FB Kyle Juszczyk

At the beginning of the offseason, the 49ers exercised fullback Kyle Juszczyk‘s option for the 2020 season. The team will now pay Juszczyk a base salary of $5.1 million this upcoming season, with a total cap hit of $6.7 million once you include his prorated bonus, roster bonuses and a workout bonus. The contract has no guaranteed money left.

Juszczyk is already the highest-paid fullback in the NFL by a pretty massive margin, and his cap hit for 2020 is over $4 million more than the next fullback on the list.

The 2020 season is also the final year of the four-year deal John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan gave to the former Baltimore Ravens fullback during their first offseason in Santa Clara, meaning as of right now, 2020 would be Juszczyk’s last season as a 49er.

An extension would allow for the 49ers to maybe bring Juszczyk’s cap number closer to the $3.5 million to $5 million place it was during the first two years of the deal. And it would also let the team keep its so-called “offensive weapon” around for a few more years.

At just 28 years old, that seems like it would be a good move for the 49ers, as Juszczyk has been an important cog in Shanahan’s offensive scheme during their time in San Francisco.
