No. 18: Offensive Guard Chilo Rachal

Drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the second round (39th overall) of the 2008 NFL Draft

Second-round offensive lineman Chilo Rachal was supposed to be the next great 49ers O-lineman after being taken in Round 2 of the 2008 NFL Draft.

The problem was he never materialized into anything of the sort.

Rachal’s pass-blocking efforts were extremely problematic as the 49ers continued to give up sacks to their quarterback. Despite the former USC product starting 15 games in 2009 and 14 the subsequent year, San Francisco started experimenting with other options to replace a player who had emerged as a problematic piece to the offensive line.

Fellow guard Adam Snyder eventually took over the role after three games in 2011, and the 49ers never looked back.

Rachal would be dismissed from the 49ers in 2012 and was out of the NFL the following year.
