With the San Francisco 49ers offseason in full swing, they’ll be looking for players to fill some holes. They do have the NFL Draft and free agency to look through, but there’s a league up north, the CFL, with some talent waiting to be signed.

The San Francisco 49ers had a pretty successful season in 2019, to say the least. But it’s that time of year when general manager John Lynch needs to decide who they think will play to a high-level next season and who won’t.

It’s not an easy process, and the Niners will lose some key players, but it’s all part of the business.

Lynch doesn’t have a lot to work with for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft, to say the least. They’ve traded numerous draft picks around, including their second-round selection to the Kansas City Chiefs for defensive end Dee Ford and their third- and fourth-round picks to the Denver Broncos. In return, San Francisco received wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and Denver’s fifth-round choice. Of course, this all hinges on if the 49ers decide to trade the 31st overall selection to acquire more picks. As of right now, nothing has been done yet.

Luckily, football is played in more countries than just the USA. The 49ers would be wise to scout in Canada. The Canadian Football League produces some excellent talent, and the Niners might find someone who fits their system. The CFL has recently developed the likes of defensive end Cameron Wake, linebacker Alex Singleton and if you want to go back about 20 years ago, quarterback Jeff Garcia who came to the 49ers through the CFL.

Another struggle the Niners have is cap space. They have a lot of free agents who want to stay but also deserve to be paid. Players deserve their bonuses and bigger contracts, especially if they went to the Super Bowl. Lynch will need to decide how they can cut costs while still upgrading in certain areas.

With all this being said, there are still some free agents left from the CFL for the 49ers to sign this offseason.

Let’s take a look at three guys Lynch should look at to add depth and possibly fill some holes on his roster.
