No, not that Lamar Jackson.

Instead, the 49ers look to reinforce their cornerback corps by grabbing Nebraska defensive back Lamar Jackson, who appears to be a seamless fit for San Francisco’s Cover 3 zone-style scheme.

Grabbing the lanky 6-foot-2, 208-pound Jackson on day three of the NFL Draft is already something Niner Noise suggested earlier. He has the ideal body type, length and movement skills to suggest he’d be a worthwhile piece to develop for the Niners secondary in coming seasons.

Yet this argument was predicated on Jackson being a fifth- or sixth-round pick. Following a solid NFL Combine performance, it’s likely Jackson goes earlier than initially anticipated.

Jackson recorded five interceptions his last two seasons at Nebraska, showcasing some ballhawking traits San Francisco could use.

And this need in the secondary isn’t without question. After all, veteran corner Richard Sherman is hitting a contract year. Younger cornerbacks, Ahkello Witherspoon and Emmanuel Sanders, haven’t exactly solidified themselves as long-term options either.

Jackson might need some additional polish at the NFL level, but there are plenty of likable traits to make him a fourth-round pickup.
