2020 NFL Combine: 5 players who improved 49ers draft stock
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers are likely to add a wide receiver in the 2020 NFL Draft, especially if Emmanuel Sanders ends up leaving in free agency.
So it’s a good thing this year’s class is tremendously deep at the position, providing Kyle Shanahan with plenty of options from the top of the draft down into the later rounds.
If San Francisco wants to hold tight in Round 1, or potentially trade back a few spots into the second round, LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson might be a perfect prospect to target. Especially considering he reportedly had an informal meeting with the Niners already.
The 6-foot-1, 202-pound pass catcher put up some impressive numbers at the combine, running a solid 4.43 40-yard time and posting a 37.5-inch vertical leap.
Those numbers suggest Jefferson could easily check off one of Shanahan’s key boxes for a receiver, speed, while also having the kind of jump capable of going after 50-50 passes. Currently, the 49ers don’t exactly have a wide receiver of that mold.
Should Jefferson be available at No. 31, it wouldn’t be shocking to see San Francisco considering using that pick on Jefferson, inevitably pairing him with second-year pro Deebo Samuel.
