2020 NFL Draft: 3 playmakers 49ers should consider with first-round pick
The San Francisco 49ers are in need of some added offensive playmakers. This need will likely be addressed in the 2020 NFL Draft due to the team’s lack of cap room for free agents.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders is an unrestricted free agent, allowing him to sign with a new team when the new league year begins at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, March 18. Running back Matt Brieda and receiver Kendrick Bourne also have expiring restricted free-agent contracts that need to be addressed this offseason.
Whether the Niners bring back the above three players or not, they are undoubtedly a top-tier playmaker away from being able to unleash the high-powered offense that can keep up with the top-scoring teams in the league.
The 2020 NFL Draft is loaded with talented prospects at the wide receiver and running back positions. This is good news for San Francisco because it won’t get to make a selection until 30 players are off the board, unless the team trades up, which is unlikely given their already depleted draft capital. The Niners are currently without any picks in Rounds 2, 3 and 4.
The top offenses in the league have three big playmakers. Think of the Kansas City Chiefs combo of tight end Travis Kelce and receivers Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins.
The 49ers have two solidified players opposing defenses fear with tight end George Kittle and wide receiver Deebo Samuel. This leaves them just one exceptional playmaker away from being an elite offensive football team.
They will likely have to spend their first-round draft pick in order to secure the third weapon for their offense.
Read on to see who Niner Noise believes would be the best offensive playmakers the 49ers could take with pick No. 31.
