2020 NFL Combine: 5 wide receivers who should impress 49ers
By Peter Panacy
Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool likely put himself squarely into consideration for a solid Round 2 NFL Draft choice after his impressive combine performance.
Just to recap, Claypool was a top performer in the high jump, reaching 40.5 inches. He then recorded an impressive 19 bench reps, while also boasting a broad jump of 126 inches.
For a 6-foot-4, 238-pound receiver, those numbers are likely to be expected. It’s Claypool’s 40-yard dash time that should stand out: an excellent 4.42 time, unofficially. That kind of speed is often unusual for a player of Claypool’s stature, yet he did it with apparent ease:

Claypool enjoyed a 1,000-yard season with the Fighting Irish in 2019, so the production is there. And those numbers probably would have been bigger if Notre Dame’s quarterbacking play would have been better.
Still, the 49ers have to be impressed with the all-around effort from Claypool, potentially making him a contingency option, should the team trade down into Round 2 from their first-round pick.
Especially considering the Niners don’t exactly have a ton of big-bodied targets with speed to burn on their roster.
