No. 5: A Cornerback for some Depth

Throughout 2019, the constant in the 49ers defensive secondary was veteran cornerback, Richard ShermanAhkello Witherspoon began the season as the starting cornerback opposite him, but injuries and inconsistent play saw him replaced by Emmanuel Moseley late in the year. Both showed promise, but neither player fully established their dominance as a starter.

Bringing in another cornerback to compete with both of them would be a good move on the 49ers part. Cornerback James Bradberry, who played with the Carolina Panthers, is set to become a free agent. In 15 games last season he recorded three interceptions and 12 passes defended. He is only 26 years old, and learning from the veteran Sherman could only enhance his game.

The 49ers at least testing the market and making a move for Bradberry could pay dividends for them in another deep playoff run.

Bradberry might be a tier above the low-budget options the Niners may be exploring this offseason. But if they want to splurge a little bit, or at least free up some cap room to make something work, Bradberry would be a wise target if the bidding war on his services doesn’t get too big.
