The San Francisco 49ers have a massive task of re-signing key players this offseason. However, some free-agent signings may help the team as well.

The San Francisco 49ers go into the 2020 offseason with more questions than answers. They boast a squad full of talented players and they would like to keep all of those key players. And there are several ways the 49ers front office will work to restructure contracts and keep the best players on the roster.

As of now they currently have just over $19 million in cap space, according to Spotrac.com. The team got to this number by recently restructuring contracts of center Weston Richburg and linebacker Kwon Alexander. And other players will likely have their contracts restructured as well to help keep this core intact. This also poses the question of what the Niners should do as far as free-agent signings.

There are many players around the league becoming free agents who would make sense for San Francisco to sign. And several players would jump at the chance to come to Santa Clara and be immediate contenders for a Super Bowl

The question is, however, who should the 49ers go after?

Just from a first glance, they need some help in the defensive secondary, and building depth in the trenches never hurts. But they would need to sign low-budget free agents who aren’t going to drain cap space.

Chances are the Niners won’t go after a big-time wide receiver. That scenario just doesn’t seem to be a move general manager John Lynch head coach Kyle Shanahan would make. Which players would they make a run at though in free agency? Who are five players who won’t break the bank?

Niner Noise explores five possibilities.
