After falling short in Super Bowl 54, the San Francisco 49ers will look to reinforce the team in the 2020 NFL Draft. Niner Noise dishes out a mock to speculate the event.

Well, the San Francisco 49ers won’t be holding the final pick in Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft, instead selecting at No. 31 overall after falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in heartbreaking fashion in Super Bowl 54.

One silver lining, albeit one no Niners fan wishes was the case, at least San Francisco will pick ahead of those Chiefs.

Yet the 49ers’ 2020 draft plans are going to look a lot different than what has been the case in recent years. For starters, the selection is no longer in the top third of picks. More importantly, stemming from 2019 trades for EDGE Dee Ford and wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, general manager John Lynch will be without picks in Rounds 2, 3 and 4.

As of now, San Francisco’s selections are as follows:

  1. Round 1, No. 31 overall
  2. Round 5, No. 139 overall (from Denver)
  3. Round 5, No. 159 overall
  4. Round 6, No. 191 overall
  5. Round 7, No. 195 overall (from Detroit)
  6. Round 7, No. 223 overall

The league’s issuing of compensatory picks to teams will eventually change the overall placement, but the Niners will still be picking second to last with each of their own picks in every round.

As far as the needs are concerned, one would figure Lynch would put defensive backs atop the list. This year’s draft class is deep at wide receiver, too, which could help solve some question marks if Sanders ultimately departs via free agency.

Overall, considering the lack of picks, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 49ers execute some sort of trade out of the No. 31 overall selection.

Let’s start there, as Niner Noise dishes out our first post-Super Bowl 54 mock ahead of April’s draft.
