After just falling short in Super Bowl 54, the San Francisco 49ers will look to rebound and pull off a championship in Super Bowl 55. Here are three reasons why it happens.

OK, this is clearly an optimistic take. But the San Francisco 49ers have an excellent chance to return to the Super Bowl in 2021, ultimately winning it after falling in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 54 last Sunday.

History isn’t exactly on the Niners’ side, of course. Out of all the Super Bowl losers from the last decade, only the 2018 New England Patriots ended up grabbing a Lombardi Trophy after suffering a Super Bowl loss the previous year. But six of the losers from the last decade ended up making it back to the playoffs.

And when you factor in those odds, one in six, that’s nowhere near as bad, right? That’s a fighting team’s chance and with good measure.

The Action Network currently lists the 49ers with the third-best odds to win Super Bowl 55 in 2021, coming in at plus-1000 behind the Baltimore Ravens (plus-800) and the Chiefs (plus-600). If you’re worried about the Chiefs repeating, which you should be, no team has pulled off that feat since the Patriots in Super Bowls 38 and 39 at the end of the 2003 and 2004 seasons, respectively.

Those odds seem even longer from Kansas City’s vantage point.

Outside of the odds, the 49ers do have an excellent chance of returning to the Super Bowl in 2021, this time winning it. And those reasons go beyond the mere conjecture the Niners are a good team with a good head coach and so on.

So, if San Francisco winds up winning Super Bowl 55 a little less than a year from now, one or all of these three factors will be reasons why.
