The San Francisco 49ers lost the final game of the season 31-20 to the champion Kansas City Chiefs, but it’s not all bad news. There were several performances from the 49ers worth looking at, all of which point to the quality of the team’s future.

This is not the way you want a season like this to end, with the San Francisco 49ers losing in Super Bowl 54 in heartbreaking fashion to the Kansas City Chiefs.

It was a utterly fantastic and often surprising season for the Niners, who started the season on a eight game winning streak and turning last year’s 4-12 record into a 13-3 mark, the number one seed in the NFC, and champions of both the NFC West division and the conference.

But in the end they fell short of the ultimate goal: bringing home the franchise’s sixth Super Bowl. And while there were little-to-no expectations of them doing so coming into the year, it still feels like the sixth Lombardi Trophy was in reach, and watching it all slip away the way it did was a devastating end to an otherwise remarkable campaign.

However, as is often the case, there is a silver lining amidst the sadness, and these are the type of positives that indicate that the future of the 49ers franchise under general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan is bright.

The team didn’t get within eight minutes of winning the Super Bowl without strong performances, and so it makes sense to highlight some of the best from the game, albeit in a losing effort.

And the best news is that these top performances mostly came from the 49ers young stars, which should be good news for Niner fans who are already looking ahead for the 2020 season and beyond.
