No. 2: Richard Sherman

When the 49ers signed cornerback Richard Sherman right after his departure from the Seattle Seahawks early in 2018, the big question was would his torn Achilles injury cause his play to deteriorate.

The answer would be not only would Sherman play well, but he would return right to his All-Pro ways and provide the 49ers with a big weapon at cornerback.

Sherman was rated the decade’s top cornerback in NFL by Pro Football Focus, his forced incompletion rate of 17.6 percent was the 10th best in the league, he gave up only one touchdown all season while recording three interceptions (returning one for a touchdown of his own).

He allowed only 8.4 yards per reception, which is good for third in the league, while just 13 of his 51 targets were converted to a first down, which was good for fourth.

All in all, quarterbacks had a passer rating of only 46.8 when targeting him. Sherman has return to his peak shutdown corner play.
