No. 3: Defensive End Solomon Thomas, Round 1, 2017 NFL Draft

Some may argue former Stanford defensive end Solomon Thomas should be ranked higher on this list of 49ers worst picks of the decade. After all, top-five selections are typically expected to be game changers right away.

Or, at the very least, rise to become stars by their second year at the pro level.

That hasn’t happened for Thomas at all, as he was played out of position his rookie season before being beset by family tragedy his second year. In year three of his pro campaign, Thomas has been relegated to backup status, rotating in with a stacked cast of San Francisco defensive linemen.

Certainly not the impact one would expect from a top-three pick.

Thomas isn’t higher, though, because he still has a chance to live up to his draft stock, although the chances of that happening are dwindling with each and every week.
