No. 6: Kyle Williams’ Overtime Fumble

You didn’t think I’d forgotten about the Harbaugh era 49ers, did you? And unfortunately, not all the memorable plays can be good ones.

Ugh. That’s really all I have to say about this play. We all remember it. If you want to be angry as the decade turns, just watch this video:

And there it is. Kyle Williams lost not one, but two punts in that 2012 NFC Championship game to the New York Giants. That was the second, and most brutal. It was in overtime, and effectively lost the game for the Niners.

Who could forget this play. It will live on forever in infamy. Not just for the play, but for the reactions of Niner fans as well. Williams received multiple death threats for this play from Niner fans, which obviously does not put us in the best light. At the end of the day, football is just a game, and threatening someone because of a mistake they made on a football field is never OK.

This fumble cost the Niners a chance to go to the Super Bowl. It will never be forgotten.
