Ranking the NFL’s 5 most disappointing teams of 2019
By Peter Panacy
The Browns might be a massive NFL disappointment, but one could argue they earn a slight pass for needing a season to proverbially “put it all together.”
The same can’t be said of the Dallas Cowboys who, despite their 7-8 record, could still feasibly win the lowly NFC East and make the postseason. Dallas was in position to “win now,” a fact made even more apparent by the tough contractual decisions owner Jerry Jones will be facing this upcoming offseason.

There’s plenty of blame to go around for the underachievement. Quarterback Dak Prescott has played well, although his 97.4 passer rating — good enough for 12th among qualifiers — suggests he’s a good signal-caller, not an elite one. Wide receiver Amari Cooper, despite reaching the 1,000-yard plateau, still has problems with drops and the Cowboys sub-.500 record indicates the pieces just aren’t in sync.
It’s made even weirder by the fact Dallas actually owns a top-10 offense with a scoring differential of plus-5.5, which ranks seventh best in the NFL entering Week 17.
So, why the disconnect?
Many will blame head coach Jason Garrett, which is fair. And not even Jones will be able to defend his decision to keep him beyond this season, should that be the route taken.
Either way, the level of talent on this Dallas squad, paired with the expectations, ultimately mean the inadequate results equate to it being ranked the No. 1 disappointment in the NFL this season.
