Ranking the NFL’s 5 most disappointing teams of 2019
By Peter Panacy
The San Francisco 49ers have been one of the biggest NFL surprises in 2019, yet there have been more than a few disappointments. Here are the top five ranked with the regular season coming to a close.
Here’s yet another lesson why you should never judge what any NFL team will do based solely off the actions it makes during the offseason.
If that was the case, the Cleveland Browns would be en route to the Super Bowl. The Baltimore Ravens wouldn’t have been able to overcome all those defensive losses, the Chicago Bears would be a hot playoff contender and the San Francisco 49ers would have been satisfied with an 8-8 regular-season finish.
Yes, predictions often go wrong. No season is won during the offseason.
The 49ers experienced something like this a year ago, yes. Coming off a five-game win streak in 2017, many thought head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad would be en route to playoff contention in 2018. But after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo‘s season-ending ACL tear in Week 3, the Niners’ campaign that year was awash with disappointment, leading to a 4-12 finish.
Shanahan and Co. have turned the table of that storyline, and then some. But there are plenty of other squads out there who have fallen well short of expectations this year. Whatever the ramifications of those outcomes may be, it’s pretty obvious to state there were some massive disappointments.
So, while the rest of the league is looking forward to what promises to be a thrilling and action-packed playoff run by a number of red-hot teams, Niner Noise switches gears a bit and breaks down the five most disappointing squads from this season.
Simply put, be thankful San Francisco isn’t anywhere close to this list, 49ers fans.
