player. 815. . Wide Receiver. Sooners . CeeDee Lamb. 5

Pros:

  • Great ball skills, has a knack of tracking the ball and making catches from a variety of positions
  • Plays physical, can work through press blocks and getting hit after catches
  • Strong floor (produced right away at Oklahoma) with a stronger ceiling
  • Tough to tackle after the catch
  • Strong blocker

Cons:

  • Doesn’t have elite speed, so he won’t stretch the field against speedier defensive backs
  • Route tree at Oklahoma was basic
  • Is a bit underweight (189 pounds for a 6-foot-2 frame) so remains to be seen if he can fill out more
  • Route running overall requires a bit of development

An exciting wide receiver out of Oklahoma, CeeDee Lamb might be just what the 49ers need as they put the finishing touches on a wide receiver corps that has quite a lot of resources put into it already.

Lamb is simply a freak when it comes to locating and catching the football. He can adjust to the ball in midair and makes a point of timing his jump perfectly. While relatively skinny, he can take hits while catching and he has a freakish ability to tap his feet in bounds and make plays.

A proven contributor, Lamb has a very high floor as a prospect. He can work effortlessly through press blocks and get free very quickly. His ability to get open combined with his strong hands and toughness makes him an appealing prospect for though who want a possession receiver who can also go up and get the ball if it’s thrown up for grabs.

Lamb does require some physical and mental development. He’s rather skinny for his frame and needs to get stronger for the professional ranks, and he also needs to be better about his route running. Oklahoma gave him a basic route tree to run, and the offensive scheme in San Francisco is considerably more complicated.

Draft range: First round

Lamb looks like a comfortable first-round pick at this stage, if he’s faster than suspected then it may put him out of reach for the 49ers no matter where they end up picking.

However, if speed becomes a concern, he could be a slider in the draft.
