The San Francisco 49ers have a fairly loaded team heading into the 2020 offseason, yet these four position groups need some notable attention for the Niners to remain contenders.

The San Francisco 49ers have dealt with a swarm of notable injuries over the first three years of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s reign. In 2017 and 2018, the Niners depth simply wasn’t enough to overcome these significant setbacks.

But 2019 has proven to be different.

At 11-2 and poised to make the playoffs for the first time since 2013, the 49ers have been able to absorb their recent run of injuries and still boasts one of the best rosters in the entire NFL.

How far that roster carries Shanahan’s squad is yet to be seen, but the team already has to be thinking about what the future holds beyond this season. And unlike previous years, it won’t be anywhere near as easy as it had been before.

San Francisco owns just one selection, Round 1, in the first four rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft. Others have been traded away, including a second-round pick for EDGE Dee Ford and a third- and fourth-round pick for wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. As far as NFL free agency is concerned, the Niners are projected to have a pre-rollover amount of $24,112,219 in available salary cap space for next year, per Over the Cap.

With contract extensions pending for defensive tackle DeForest Buckner, tight end George Kittle and likely others, there isn’t going to be a ton of money available to wildly spend on the open market, either.

Still, Shanahan and general manager John Lynch are going to need to make some changes and provide some added support to a number of positions in 2020.

Here are four which could stand for some reinforcement.
