Top 5 takeaways from 49ers Week 14 win vs. Saints

No. 1: 49ers are true contenders
It’s been said you’ll know what you’re made of as a fighter, but only after getting punched in the jaw. There’s something about it that forces the gravity of the situation front and center to a place where it cannot be ignored.
That’s exactly what quarterback Drew Brees and the Saints did on their opening drive to score the first touchdown of the game. This was not the first time where the 49ers defense conceded points on the opponent’s opening drive. But this one felt different. This one was a big blow, it made a statement, “This is our house, we’don’t care about your record, there is a lot at stake and we’re not afraid of you.”
San Francisco 49ers
The Saints played with such power and precision that one instantly knew this was the biggest test for the Niners all season.
At first, it looked like the Saints were going to walk away with this game as the 49ers trailed by 14 points up until there were six minutes left in the first half. The Niners led going into the half, but it became an all-out slugfest for the lead in the third and fourth quarters.
This game also felt different for the 49ers.
What made this game so memorable, so distinct, was the level of confidence with which the 49ers played. Everyone on the team seemed focused but relaxed. It’s almost like they didn’t know they were supposed to be anxious fighting in enemy territory.
Up until this game, I hadn’t seen this level of confidence overflowing from the coaching staff to the players. That’s the value of preparation and trust in oneself and your teammates. It was beautiful to watch.
In the Army, we had a saying: we’re only as fast as our slowest, we’re only as strong as our weakest, no one ever gives up and everyone always comes home.
Last Sunday, the 49ers were the very embodiment of that phrase.
As long as they continue to fight the way they did at the Superdome, there is no stopping the 49ers. Fearless play-calling, pinpoint passing, complete faith in a masterful defense, and do-or-die route-running on a wing and a prayer are elements of a championship team.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is precisely what we witnessed on the road in New Orleans.
This battle is not yet over, and regardless of the EKG readings on my watch, my level of confidence in this team has never been higher! Let’s go get this Niners Faithful!!
